Health and Safety Kits

My Body LK+
Major body parts and organs are highlighted in all parts of this unit. Students learn the function and location in the body of each part; worksheets provide opportunity for independent practice. Older students will enjoy the “Fun Facts” in the computer story (Do you know how long your intestines are?). LK-MB $45

Recycle

Does it go in the garbage or in the recycle bin? Find out as students sort though everyday waste. Sorting skills are reinforced in the songboard, worksheets, and suggestions for classroom activities. Recycle dryer lint with the Dryer Lint Clay recipe (but don't eat it!). LK-R $35

You Are What You Eat
The food pyramid and food groups are introduced in the Fabulous Foods book and extension activities. In the computer story, Healthy Henry helps students make wise eating choices, and reinforces food groups. The songboard is a replica of a cafeteria lunch line - sing about a balanced diet while you fill your plate.

Stop, Drop and Roll
Firefighter Andy stars in the Classroom Suite story as he shows students the special clothes he wears to keep safe. The anchor book "Don't Touch Hot Things" and songboard point out hot and dangerous items and places in the home environment. An additional computer activity teaches important safety concepts to older students.

Community Signs LK+

Multiple opportunities for instruction and practice abound in this unit about community signs. Students will learn that direction may be provided by more than one type of sign, and can complete a community signs scavenger hunt on their next mobility trip. Digital photos about helpful safety signs observed during a trip to the mall are in the computer story. LK-CS $45

The Playground LK+
Understanding cooperative behavior and rules in social situations can be a challenge for many students. “The Playground” exposes students to rules and appropriate behavior before the actual event, and may be used for reinforcement when recess is finished. Concepts include waiting in line, turn-taking, no hitting / kicking, and sharing. LK-TP $45

Looking Good
All activities in this unit address grooming concepts. Boardmaker book can be customized for younger or older students; choose the Classroom Suite story for either younger or older students. A grooming survey provides practice with counting and graphing skills. LK-LG $35

It's SENSational!
Students learn about their 5 senses through the activity of making Kool Aid. A sensory bag and BINGO game challenge students to use their senses to describe a variety of items through touch, sound, smell, and sight. The computer story uses simple animations to expand language concepts. LK-IS $35

Use the grooming items - comb, toothbrush, soap, nail file, washcloth - to support vocabulary and with the songboard.

A variety of items with interesting textures, smells, sounds and tastes; supports the descriptor card activity in the Take and Teach unit. MK-S $5
