About AIMEE

AimeeAimee was a special little girl who graced our lives for too a brief a time. Because of cerebral palsy, she was non-verbal and rode in a hot pink wheelchair. Her bright smile, sense of humor, and quiet determination touched many people. When Aimee was four, our church held a rummage sale to raise money for a wheelchair lift and a computer. The computer opened new doors for both Aimee and our family. "Playing" on the computer soon became a means for Aimee both to learn and to show others what she knew but was unable to express by conventional methods.

As Aimee entered into the educational system, it was clear to me that the computer would be a valuable tool for her in the classroom. I also quickly learned that Aimee's teachers lacked the training and time required to adapt her curriculum with software programs. With input from the educational team, and much trial and error learning software, I was able to fill this gap. Aimee died when she was six, leaving me with a huge void in my life and searching for a new purpose.

It was not long before friends with disabled children asked me to share my knowledge and provide computer adaptations for their childrens' classrooms. What a blessing it was to see these other special kids begin to experience success using technology, just as Aimee had done. The educators were encouraging, and I knew that I was filling a need for them, also. Thus, in memory and honor of my daughter, AIMEE Solutions was born.

Pat Bryant, MA SLP

Speech-Language Pathologist and Dollar Store Queen Extraordinaire

I have worked as a Speech-Language Pathologist forever with all different populations. Both my BA and MA are from Indiana University. Continuing to learn more is great fun, so I have attended many workshops and conferences to sharpen my ideas and to challenge me. Working with the severe/profound population for 15 years has been my biggest challenge. I am presently servicing children with autism. The challenge of developing functional communication systems as cheaply as possible is what keeps me coming to school daily. Thus, I have become the Dollar Store Queen - searching for cheap things to adapt, helping kids to be successful learners and communicators. Working with an Assistive Technology team has challenged my brain in new and exciting ways.

I have 19 years experience providing Occupational Therapy services to severe/profound, PH/LD/BD students, their classroom staff, and parents. This includes development of student programs, which include oral-motor, feeding, positioning, sensory, fine motor; assistive technology software/devices; prevocational and vocational work site assessments and community life skills; training of classroom staff/parents on implementation and adaptation of these programs.  I am responsible for adaptations for use within the classroom to make curriculum materials accessible to all learners. But most of all, I am a Tech Junkie, and am usually the first to have all the latest "toys"! I believe all students can learn and contribute to the classroom.

Julie Rick, MBA

Assistive Technology Consultant

I see myself as a bridge - helping to remove the gap between the technology available for special needs students and the practicality of every-day use.  I believe this can happen if both students and professionals are provided with the right resources and support.  I have 8 years experience providing computer-based curriculum modifications for students and classrooms. I also conduct group and individual software training on a wide range of special education and authoring software programs.  I am part of an Assistive Technology team where I specialize in software applications and alternate access and assisting education teams in implementing use of technology in the classroom setting.  It's all about the kids!
